Check your Trees & Shrubs for Bagworms
Bagworms infect and often defoliate arborvitae, junipers, and other trees and shrubs. Eggs are laid in the bags (like the one pictured here) in the fall and then hatch in early June, producing up to 1000 bagworms per bag. Control bagworms by spraying with insecticides right after the worms have hatched. Read below for more information about combating bagworms and other insects on your trees and shrubs.

A Great Product for Bagworm Control
June is the time to spray for bagworms, tent caterpillars, and other pests which may be infecting your trees and shrubs. Fertilome Borer, Bagworm, Leafminer, and Tent Caterpillar Spray is an excellent product for this purpose. Stop by and let us help you with your insect problems.

Detecting Emerald Ash Borer Infestation
Infested Ash trees begin with defoliation in the top 1/3 of the tree and continue until the tree is bare of leaves. Distinctive D-shaped exit holes (as pictured here) can be seen in the bark. Often you will see woodpeckers boring into the tree's bark to feast on the beetle larva. Infested trees can be treated & saved if borers are detected in time.

Identifying Emerald Ash Borers
Emerald Ash Borers have been spotted in White County. These bright green beetles are 1/3" long by 1/16" wide and can be seen from mid-May to late July. In the larval stage from August to May, they do their damage by eating underneath the bark and destroying the vessels of the tree through which its nutrition must flow.

Treating Ash Trees for Emerald Ash Borer
If you have ash trees and want to protect them from Emerald Ash Borer, you will need to treat them one time each year with Bayer Tree & Shrub Insect Control. Measure the distance around your tree's trunk. Fill a bucket with water and add 1 ounce of this product for each inch of tree trunk circumference. Pour the solution around the base of the tree. Fill the bucket with water to rinse it and dump that bucketful around the tree. Treating for Emerald Ash Borer is not cheap but may be a good value if you weigh it against the value of your beautiful Ash tree!
